well, no sense taking the chance.All the above said, this ended up being the BEST way to put the GPS in the car. I got this when I realized that CA had a law on the books that made suction cup mount devices on the windshield illegal. The GPS NEVER moves and the base is flexible enough to sit neatly on pretty much any shape dash. No more trying to get the suction cup mount to stick and STAY stuck to the windshield and it makes it very easy when traveling to toss in my bag and just set it on the dash of a rental. That has since been repealed leaving, I think only MN with that law. I didn't have worries that I'd ever get a citation for the windshield mount but, should one run into a cop having a bad day who even KNEW that was a law.
Since the screen is small, detail is lost. The standard suction cup tends to detach when exposed to the hot sun, and even when attached, allows the GPS unit will vibrate to a distracting degree.
HOWEVER, on a sloping dashboard, it does tend to slide when cornering hard or under rapid acceleration.Overall, it satisfies my needs. I bought this because of two reasons:First, I found that getting the included windshield mount in the right position so that it would swivel without tilting was difficult.And second, the suction mount would come loose, dropping the GPS onto the passenger's lap or the floor.The fact that windshield mounts are illegal in California was NOT a factor.This mount is a great improvement over the bean bag mount I had with earlier GPS devices. It tends to stay where you put it and the holder for the GPS tilts and swivels so it can be easily viewed by the driver and passenger.
This just sits on top of your dashboard and stays there, no matter how bumpy the ride. This product is definitely worth it. It works much better than the suction mount, where after a while, it stops mounting, due to lack of suction.
Now I can actually read the display while I am driving, or turn the GPS so that my front seat passenger can read it. This three-footed friction mount is FAR superior to the horrid suction cup mount which Garmin forces you to buy (part of the bundle) with the Quest.
